Just saw these guys in concert on Friday. GREAT time. Figure if symphonic music (a la Lord of the Rings) met heavy metal.
The result is awesome.

Epica is great, and not just cause they are Dootjch...That tour came to Toronto but I couldn't go cause of this pesky school thing.
I'm a huge fan of the supporting act Threat Signal, and not just cause they are Canadian.

They're quite popular in the Dutch gothic community. I had the chance to see them live at the popstage I work at but didn't go, never really got into that type of music.

Threat Signal was good. Blackguard was.... eh. Some of the local bands were also really good, but some were also equally bad.
I got to drink with the drummer of Blackguard though. That was fun times.

Blackguard is also Canadian (Montreal)...a friend of mine used to room with one of the members.
I'm not a big fan, but the genre of Pirate Metal is definitely under represented 
If you like Epica you should check out Lacuna Coil if you haven't already.
